MEDICALLY INDUCED TERMINATIONS:
Medically induced terminations, also referred to as chemical terminations, are offered to patients between 5 through 9 weeks gestation. This method of pregnancy termination involves a minimum of 3 visits. The FDA medications, which are approved, are Methotrexate and Misoprostol. This combination of medications has been studied extensively around the world. Used in combination, they are over 95% effective in terminating pregnancy between 5 and 9 weeks gestation without the use of surgical instruments.
VACUUM D &C:
Only a small percentage of women need to have a D&C performed due to the failure to terminate a pregnancy. The main advantage of using this procedure is that one can have a termination performed at a much earlier gestational age in comparison to a surgical termination. Surgical terminations cannot be performed any earlier that 5 and 6 weeks gestational age.
RECOVERY FOR FIRST AND EARLY SECOND TRIMESTER PROCEDURE:
Patients are generally able to go back to work or school 24 to 36 hours following the procedure. They are instructed to refrain from heavy lifting, prolonged standing, running, jogging, or excessive climbing of stairs for 2 weeks. The patients are to call for bleeding more than one pad an hour, temperature greater than 100.4 degrees, or severe pelvic pain.
No baths or swimming should be done for 3 weeks. No intercourse or tampon usage for 3 weeks. The patient is to return to AB services for her 3-week check up where a pelvic exam and pregnancy test are performed. Insurance may be used on an individual basis; otherwise additional cost will apply.
The patient will have individual recovery following the procedure. This monitoring will take between 15 to 30 minutes. During this period of time, the patient’s blood pressure is checked, the amount of vaginal bleeding is observed, and medications for discomfort and to help the uterus (womb) contract are given. The total length of time, from the time the woman enters the office until leaving is 2 to 2 ½ hours.
SCHOOL PHYSICALS:
In addition, we offer school physicals and annual GYN exams performed by a board-certified OB/GYN female Nurse Practitioner. The physicals and exams include pap smears as well as the diagnosis and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, vaginitis, and urinary tract infections. Other family planning services include dispensing birth control pills, IUD insertions, diaphragm fittings, and Depo-Provera injections.

Micro-Gam and RhoGam injections for RH-negative women are provided at an additional cost. General anesthesia is available.
