Medical Abortion/RU486
Procedures are done between weeks 5 and 9. Our patients are given an ultrasound to confirm how far along you are. Then you will meet with
the doctor to review any medical concerns and review your instructions. You will sign your consent forms as all information is explained and signed. While you are
here you will take the first portion of your pills. You will then receive the remainder of
your medications to include antibiotics and pain medications to take home with you. You
will be seen in the office 1 week later and then 3 weeks later to confirm the pill has worked.
Surgical Abortion: (5.5 – 14 Weeks)
During your vist...
When you arrive after filling out your paperwork. Our patients are given an ultrasound (to see how far along you are). We will then go
over your medical history and any questions you have. You will then be given your
medication to relax you. After you are relaxed you will be taken into the surgery room
where an IV will be started for your anesthesia. The procedure will be done under
ultrasound and will take about 5-10 minutes. You then will be taken to the recovery
room where we will monitor your heart rate. You will rest for 30 – 60
minutes. You will be awakened gradually and then we will give you a snack and drink
and help you get dressed. When you are ready to go home we will find your driver and
escort you to the car. You will then follow up with the doctor in 3 weeks for your post operative care or before hand if needed.
During your surgical abortion...
You will have a typical GYN exam and be put to sleep using the IV. The doctor cleanses
